Dental Marketing in Memphis, TN

The metro total barely moved after 2020, but the map underneath it did. Shelby County shed about 19,800 residents while DeSoto County, Mississippi, added about 12,600 and Fayette County, Tennessee, about 3,400. For a practice, that means the fastest-growing pool of new patients sits south of the state line and east of the county line, while offices inside Memphis mostly compete for families who already live there.

Freight and distribution set Memphis apart. In August 2026 the Bureau of Labor Statistics counted about 654,000 nonfarm jobs in the metro, and trade, transportation, and utilities supplied about 190,600 of them, close to three in every ten. Education and health services followed at about 103,100, then government (about 85,300), professional and business services (about 83,700), and leisure and hospitality (about 62,800). The unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, was 4.6 percent.

The Memphis Dental Market

Our Memphis dental marketing programs draw on the Memphis metro market knowledge, including The Census Bureau's Memphis metro covers nine counties in three states: Shelby, Tipton, and Fayette in Tennessee; DeSoto, Marshall, Tate, Tunica, and Benton in Mississippi; and Crittenden in Arkansas. It held about 1.34 million people in July 2025, close to the 2020 base. Shelby County alone holds about 910,000 residents, roughly two thirds of the metro, and the city of Memphis about 610,000..

Submarkets We Target

City of Memphis

About 610,000 residents in July 2025, some 18,900 fewer than the 2020 base, so a city office grows mainly by winning patients who already live within a short drive.

Germantown and Collierville

East Shelby County suburbs of about 40,000 and 51,900 residents; Germantown is down about 3 percent since 2020 and Collierville is up about 1 percent.

Bartlett, Arlington, and Lakeland

Northeast Shelby County: Bartlett holds about 56,400 people and slipped about 2 percent, while Arlington (about 15,700) and Lakeland (about 14,400) both grew.

Millington

North Shelby County city of about 13,000 that grew about 22 percent since 2020, one of the fastest gains of any city in the metro.

Southaven, Olive Branch, and Horn Lake

DeSoto County's three largest cities, at about 57,800, 47,600, and 26,700 residents; Southaven grew about 6 percent and Horn Lake held steady.

Hernando

The DeSoto County seat, about 18,800 residents and up close to 10 percent since 2020.

Oakland and Fayette County

Fayette County grew about 8 percent to some 45,100 people, and the town of Oakland about 21 percent to roughly 10,800.

Atoka, Munford, and Tipton County

Tipton County holds about 62,300 residents; Atoka (about 10,600) and Munford (about 7,000) each grew by 6 to 11 percent.

West Memphis and Crittenden County, Arkansas

Across the river, Crittenden County fell about 4 percent to some 46,200 residents, and West Memphis to about 23,300.

Insurance and Payer Environment

We have not found a primary source for dental plan market share in the Memphis metro, so we do not publish one. With freight, warehousing, and health care among the largest employers by sector, many working patients arrive with employer dental benefits and want to know quickly whether an office takes their plan. A current, plain list of accepted plans on the website and in the Business Profile answers that before the first call.

Demographics and Patient Base

The Census components of change explain the flat total. In the year to July 2025, births outpaced deaths by about 2,200 and international migration added about 4,000 people, but about 10,300 more residents moved out to other parts of the country than moved in. Most of that outflow came from Shelby County, while DeSoto, Fayette, Marshall, and Tate counties kept gaining residents from domestic moves.
